As
this very minute, Honest Weight's members are working closely with our
design team to refine the plans for our future home on Watervliet Ave.
It has been a challenge to get to this point, to be sure. The difficult
economic climate has required us to think hard about our priorities so
that our new store design meets our budget realities. But we are
confident that the delays are over and, after a membership vote on the
project design and budget, we will be breaking ground in the coming
months!
We are now ready to make our largest investment ever: in the future of
the Co-op. One of our most important goals in financing the project is
to have as much participation by our members and shareholders as
possible. So far, our community has committed over $700,000 through our
loan campaign and Building Blocks program! Thanks to all who have
participated or considered such investments. It is inspiring to see
everyone coming together for this great project.
However, our fundraising is not done yet. We still need to raise about
$300,000, and we need to do it soon to show our lenders that we have
the support of our membership and community. If you've been thinking
about a loan or a Building Block, there is no better time than now! A
generous group of individuals has promised a $100,000 loan when we
reach the $900,000 mark. Your investment can help us reach that goal!
For more information on our loan program, see the loan brochure or call
Loan Ranger Lynne Lekakis at (518) 427-7386. Our loans offer interest
rates up to 6%, so we hope you will consider us if you have CDs or
other investments earning less than that.
To purchase a Building Block (in denominations up to $100, which can be
redeemed for $120 worth of goods in seven years), just visit the
service desk or see the Building Blocks page!
If you have questions that you need answered before you can commit to
an investment, we understand that too. We're here to talk with you
about our new store project! Email us at board@honestweight.coop, or
see the Board of
Directors page
for contact information for your entire Board of Directors.
We will also be holding informational meetings prior to our membership
vote on the project design and budget, so keep an eye out for future
announcements. Thankfully, the Co-op is stronger today than at any time
in its history. Our membership and sales grew steadily throughout the
recession.
We have more community presence, education and outreach than ever
before. Throughout it all we have remained profitable, and we take
great pride in sharing those profits with our membership and the
surrounding community.
We remain committed to financing the new store in a way that
strengthens our organization and encourages the participation of all
our members and shareholders. After all, our investments bring back
great returns to our community far and wide, and our risks are shared
by us all.
