Chicken Souvlaki with Ryan Bombard, Wednesday, October 4, 10AM - 12PM

All are welcome to join in this community cooking class! This month, we will make and sample Chicken Souvlaki, a classic Greek dish. Ryan’s monthly class is part of the Day Hab Without Walls program of the Center for Disability Services. The program aims to integrate program participants into the community while teaching job and life skills.

HWFC Coffeehouse Open Mic, Saturday, October 7, 7-10PM

Autumn’s Harvest with Laura, Tuesday, October 10, 10:30AM - 12PM

In this month’s hands-on cooking class with Laura Rosenthal, we will discuss and begin the process of making sauerkraut. We will also bake apple turnovers, discuss which varieties are best for baking, saucing, or snacking, and perform our annual apple taste test.

Vegan Support Group: Veganism & Spirituality, October 15, 1-3PM

Whether you believe in a higher power, or not, or maybe something in between, join us as special guest Frank Hoffman explores and explains the connection between eating other living beings and Albany Vegan Network’s beliefs behind eating animals.

Singing Bowls with Bill Leslie, Third Mondays 6-7PM  Meditation allows the mind to let go of the past and put aside expectations for the future. The sound of singing bowls helps create that pause. 

Folk guitar and Ukulele Group, Second Mondays, 6-8PM This instructional workshop is tailored to equip, inspire and encourage participants to competently make and talk the language of music. Drop in!

Public Meditation Class with Diamond Way Buddhism, Second Tuesdays, 7:30-8:30PM This monthly meditation practice at HWFC is straightforward and aimed at regular people with busy lives. Beginners are welcome!

Qigong with Diana Wells, Fourth Wednesdays, 12:30-1:30PM Qigong, an ancient Chinese healing practice consists of a series of profound yet simple movements that can increase vitality and longevity, dissolve stress, enhance the immune system, assist in the healing of acute and chronic illness and induce and sustain a tranquil state of mind.  Perfect for any age and ability.

Conversational Spanish with Melanie Porés, Mondays, 10-11AM Drop by our Café and join in this meetup for Spanish speakers at all levels.

Body Fat & Blood Pressure Screening, Tuesdays, 11AM-2PM Personal trainer, Jeff Grayson Miller, will test your body fat and blood pressure and translate those numbers into usable information about your health. At Service Desk.

English as a Second Language, Tuesdays, 6-7:30PM Tutoring in English reading and writing and for English as a Second Language (ESL). Students can bring school work, projects, or teacher will provide learning material as needed. Guardians must be present for minors.

Co-op Family Group, Wednesdays 10AM-12PM A weekly family group that has been meeting at Honest Weight since 2006 to discuss a whole host of topics pertaining to natural parenting choices. Kids are welcome! 

iRest Yoga Nidra, Wednesdays, 6-7PM Based on the ancient teachings of meditation, iRest provides tools to help you relax deeply, release stress and increase resiliency, with a goal of improving interpersonal relationships and providing greater control and mastery of life. 

Native American Mindfulness & Meditation, Healing Chants, and  Drum Circle, Wednesdays, 7:15-8:30PM Join Fidel Moreno, water protector, to learn Native American healing Chants will be shared as well as a 20 minute silent meditation for clearing and grounding. There will also be a 20 minute drumming activation circle with personal hand drums and rattles. 

Yoga for Parkinson’s, Wednesdays, 10:30-11:30AM A gentle yet motivating chair yoga class designed to inspire mind/body ease and enhance daily functioning for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers.
