Member-Owner Opportunities

Honest Weight relies on Member-Owners to help run our store in a variety of ways. Here is a list of current needs, sorted by department. Please keep in mind your discount status when inquiring about assignments.

Areas of immediate need as of February 12: 

We are seeking a committed weekly Member-Owner to take our bottle deposits to Capital Redemption Center on Clinton Ave and then bring the redeemed cash back to the HWFC customer service desk. The Member-Owner needs to complete this task between Saturday 8am-12pm and Sunday 8am-12pm. The Member-Owner will need to have a valid driver license, be able to be added to our insurance policy, and be able to lift ~ 50 lbs to transport the bags. Contact Stephen at to do this task.

  • The Bulk Department is in high demand! When considering helping in Bulk, Member-Owners may want to consider back-up options as well since the shifts in bulk fill up on a regular basis.  
  • Weekly stockers who can do heavy lifting, including regularly lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Weekly herb stockers, day-time Saturdays and Sunday evenings
  • Monthly member-owners for deep cleaning of Bulk, early morning or late evening hours, any day of the week. This will require some heavy lifting, and a self-directed member would be a good fit for this task

Cheese & Specialty Foods

  • Weekly member-owners with knowledge of department’s products and a passion for fine foods
  • Tasks include cleaning, cutting and wrapping, shelf maintenance, off-site event support, etc

Coop Scoop

  • Bimonthly The Coop Scoop is a print and digital lifestyle and wellness publication created by Honest Weight on a bimonthly basis. We are always seeking writers for submissions on a bimonthly basis. Writers can choose from several suggested topics or suggest their own around an issue theme that must be approved by a team of editors.

Food Service

  • Weekly member-owners with food experience to help prep for meals 
  • Weekly member-owners for front of house to package salads and food, all times open
  • Weekly member-owners to help with deliveries: This would include putting away produce and dry food stock, rotating products and organizing on shelves, breaking down the boxes and taking out cardboard/any pallets. Fridays 7:30 am - 10:30 am.
  • Weekly member-owners for cleaning and organizing

  • Bakery is looking for Weekly Member-Owners for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 6 -9 am. 
    • Responsibilities are cleaning the bakery case, helping tray baked items for sale, cutting bars and assisting the morning baker in whatever they need.  No bakery experience necessary but good qualities are strong multitasking skills and an ability to move around for 3 hours consistently.


Front End

  • Monthly or weekly  Courtesy Clerks to bag customer groceries and assist customers at the register; sign up for a time slot at the Service Desk, especially need coverage on Friday late afternoon and weekends from noon to 7pm
  • Weekly Cashiers needed on all days, various times, especially weekend shifts
  • Current or Past Cashiers to be on-call for the substitute list for cancellations

  • We have a high priority need for consistent weekly early morning and late night stockers (6am-9am and 6pm-10pm) in the grab-n-go refrigerated beverage area. This is a high volume, exciting area to stock. If you are interested, please contact Laura Angell
  • There are always Monthly and weekly slots available for stocking, conditioning, organizing, auditing, cleaning, and clerical help. All time slots are available. Times of greatest need are:
    • All early mornings, as early as 6 am especially on Fridays and Saturdays
    • Evenings every day of the week conditioning the store, between 6 and 10 pm.

Meat & Seafood

  • Weekly member-owners to help in the cold room which requires wearing a hat/hair covering; bagging, cleaning and providing customer service, 6 - 9pm, Tuesday - Sunday
  • Weekly member-owners from 3:30 - 6:30 pm to help with counter, customer service, and cleaning tasks

  • Weekly or monthly member-owners for help with shelf tags and signs. A good fit is a self-directed and computer savvy Member-Owner who can do their shift on their feet in the aisles doing price checking.

  • Monthly or weekly member-owners excited about rigorous and rewarding Community Outreach, with open availability (especially weekdays), who are skilled at engaging large groups of children and adults
  • As a member-owner you’ll represent Honest Weight by sampling food items from our bulk department, talking up the Co-op, membership, and free classes in our teaching kitchen and all the wonderful things you love about Honest Weight.

  • Monthly and Weekly Assistants to help with room set up, clean up, and to help the teachers during class time for the classes at the Co-op which are related to our mission (such as health and wellness, alternative diets, ecological sustainability, etc.) These are often weekend positions.

  • Weekly help for Café Maintenance at mealtimes: clear and wipe tables, maintain cutlery and other supplies, spot sweep and wipe floors, bring bus trays to the kitchen
  • During heavy business times help monitor correct use of compost, recycling and trash receptacles in the dining cafe area
  • Monthly and weekly help Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday days, and any night to close the store; tasks include cleaning bathrooms, dust-mopping floors, and taking garbage to the dumpsters; or help with floor care in the evenings, starting at 10pm.

Maintenance and Grounds Support

  • Monthly and weekly member-owners in early morning and late evening for numerous tasks. Proficiency with tools, ladders, paint, etc. Computer and mechanical literacy desired. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. Contact Brian P. at

    • For the foreseeable future we will be having weeding parties every Saturday from 9 AM-12 PM. Contact Paul at to RSVP. This is a great way to get your hours, beautify the property, and enjoy the outdoors.

Greeters/Shoppers’ Helpers/Parking Attendants

  • Monthly and weekly member-owners to greet customers at the front entrance as Greeters.
    • Greeters are especially appreciated during morning, lunchtime hours and dinner rush hours.
  • Monthly and weekly member-owners to assist customers, back-up Courtesy Clerks, and help wherever needed as Shopper's Helpers, throughout the week at various times. Must be outgoing and have a great knowledge of the store and products.
  • Monthly and weekly Parking Lot Attendants to help shoppers navigate the parking lot, unload groceries, and return their shopping carts, especially on the weekends and during our busy holiday season

Member Services

  • Occasional help for Special Events-- This group is called our On-Call group. The Member Owner Coordinator is looking for a group of motivated and friendly people who we can contact for help setting up events at the Co-op.  There is no set schedule for this position, these people would be available for a variety of community events.  Join the list of people we reach out to and come join in when you can!

  • We are also looking for a couple of weekly or monthly member-owners to work with our Merchandising Department to sample products in the store. The right candidate is engaging, friendly, and has knowledge about health foods and food service.



  • Wellness is at near full capacity for member-owner shifts at this time, but we are always willing to consider weekly or monthly member-owners with particular experience, interest, knowledge and passion for the department’s products to help with receiving orders, stocking shelves, back-stocking, fronting shelves, and customer service

Plants Department's Seasonal Member Owners

  • Weekly and Monthly time investment opportunities in Plants will begin for self-directed experienced gardeners and customer service-minded individuals in the Spring. 
  • Investing time in the Plants Department is a wonderful seasonal place for Member-Owners to get involved! Spend your time outside in the fresh air, help our Owners and other customers to get their gardens growing this season with locally grown plants (organic or conventional) and locally produced organic soils. Along with locally grown straw (organic or conventional), locally supplied seed companies, locally grown flowers for almost all of our bouquets, and locally grown succulent collections, our offerings are all about supporting our community of growers and providing excellent selections for eco-conscious shoppers to choose from!
