Attention Member-Owners

Honest Weight relies on Member-Owners to help run our store in a variety of ways, and only people who have purchased an ownership at HWFC are eligible to invest time as Owners and become Member-Owners. Here is a list of current needs, sorted by department. Please keep in mind your discount status when inquiring about assignments.

Times are evolving rapidly as we work to meet safety expectations and keep up with the needs of the community we serve. For direct and up-to-the-minute member-owner time investment inquiries, reach out to the department that you are interested in helping or contact the Member-Owner Coordinator, Yevette, at or 518-482-2667 ext 104.

Are you an Eco-Commuter? Member-Owners who travel to their time-investment shifts using a method of travel other than a personal vehicle are eligible to receive M-O time under our Eco-Commuter program. Contact Yevette at to inquire about details.

  • The Bulk Department is looking for more member-owners!  
  • Weekly stockers who can do heavy lifting, including regularly lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Weekly herb stockers, day-time Saturdays and Sunday evenings
  • Monthly member-owners for deep cleaning of Bulk, early morning or late evening hours, any day of the week. This will require some heavy lifting, and self-directed members would be a good fit for this task

Cheese & Specialty Foods

  • Weekly member-owners with knowledge of department’s products and a passion for fine foods
  • Tasks include cleaning, cutting and wrapping, shelf maintenance, off-site event support, etc

Coop Scoop

  • Quarterly with Monthly tasks The Coop Scoop is a print and digital lifestyle and wellness publication created by Honest Weight on a quartely basis. We are always seeking writers for submissions on a quartely basis. Writers can choose from several suggested topics or suggest their own around an issue theme that must be approved by a team of editors.

Food Service

  • Weekly member-owners for front of house to package salads and food
  • Weekly member-owners to help with deliveries: This would include putting away produce and dry food stock, rotating products and organizing on shelves, breaking down the boxes and taking out cardboard/any pallets. Fridays 7:30 am - 10:30 am.
  • Weekly member-owners for cleaning and organizing

  • Bakery is looking for Weekly Member-Owners on Tuesdays,Thursdays and Fridays, 6 -9 am 
    • Responsibilities are cleaning the bakery case, helping tray baked items for sale, cutting bars and assisting the morning baker in whatever they need.  No bakery experience necessary but good qualities are strong multitasking skills and an ability to move around for 3 hours consistently.

Front End

  • Monthly or weekly  Courtesy Clerks to bag customer groceries, straighten baskets and boxes at the front end and assist customers at the register
    • We especially need courtesy clerks for weekend shifts, this is a great way to get to know the Co-op and coomunity through great customer service adn interaction
  • Weekly Cashiers needed on all days, various times, especially weekend shifts
  • Current or Past Cashiers to be on-call for the substitute list for cancellations

  • Monthly and Weekly slots available for stocking, conditioning, organizing, auditing, cleaning, and clerical help. All time slots are available. Some specifics are:
    • “Grab-and-Go” beverage section, early morning and late evening shifts needed
    • Dairy stocker every day of the week, mornings preferred, but late evenings also a possibility. If you want to be a night owl, bring a jacket—we need the walk-in stocked!
    • Cleaners and fixers: Are you a handy human? Do you like to fix stuff or make it sparkle? Routine maintenance in the grocery department offers you a chance to shine! Dairy shelves, freezer shelves, pricing guns all offer opportunities for making our world a better place!
    • Sale sign and sign audit helpers. These people come in before the sale to organize the signs.  Once the signs are available to us, this is flexible for day(s) and time(s).  We also need help Tuesday mornings of sale change days to put the signs up.  Once signs are up we need someone Tuesday afternoon/evening and/or Wednesday early morning to do the sign audit - use the sheets printed to verify signs are up and have correct prices.

Meat & Seafood

  • Weekly member-owners to help in the cold room which requires wearing a hat/hair covering; bagging, cleaning and providing customer service
  • Weekly member-owners from 3:30 - 6:30 pm to help with counter, customer service, and cleaning tasks
  • Monthly member-owners to clean

  • Monthly and weekly help with stocking, prep, and cleaning
  • Weekly or monthly member-owners for help with shelf tags and signs. A good fit is a self-directed and computer savvy Member-Owner who can do their shift on their feet in the aisles doing price checking. 
  • Shifts are available throughout the week at varied times, especially Tuesday; call or email for an updated listing and/or to schedule

  • Weekly or monthly member-owners to be Meat Department support. Remember the old "Meat Monitor" at the Central Ave store? We're bringing the concept back. Sign up to help from 6-9 pm with customer service and creating an extra presense in the meat department. No handling of unpackaged meat or fish products is required, be prepared to do light straightening of the department and to be on your feet for your shift.

  • Future Monthly or weekly member-owners excited about rigorous and rewarding Community Outreach, with open availability (especially weekdays), who are skilled at engaging large groups of children and adults
  • As a member-owner you’ll represent Honest Weight by sampling food items from our bulk department, talking up the Co-op, membership, and free classes in our teaching kitchen and all the wonderful things you love about Honest Weight.

  • Special Events help on an as-needed basis

  • Monthly and weekly member-owners to help with general housekeeping tasks include sanitizing, cleaning bathrooms, dust-mopping floors, and taking garbage to the dumpsters; or help with floor care in the evenings, starting at 10pm.

Maintenance and Grounds Support

  • Monthly and weekly member-owners in early morning and late evening for numerous tasks. Proficiency with tools, ladders, paint, etc. Computer and mechanical literacy desired. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. Contact Brian at

  • Special gardening projects-- like preparing new garden beds or community clean-up events available.  Contact Yevette at or 518.482.2667 x 104 for more info.
  • Education and Outreach are planning our first Edible Garden! We seek an enthusiastic Edible-Garden Coordinator to schedule/train gardeners for daily shifts, organize planting and clean-up days, communicate regularly with Edible Garden Group, Education, & Outreach, invest M-O time on-site and from home, perform limited additional tasks. Parking Lot Attendants and Greeters

  • Monthly and weekly Parking Lot Attendants to help shoppers navigate the parking lot, unload groceries, and return their shopping carts, especially on the weekends. Picking up trash is another important aspect of this position.
  • Greeters for the main store entrance area. This is interactive and will sometimes hand out coupons or help the customer service desk with weighing jars  


Member Services

  • Occasional help for Special Events-- We're always looking for motivated and friendly people who we can contact for help setting up and maintaining events at the Co-op.  There is no set schedule for this position, these people would be available for a variety of community events.  Join the list of people we reach out to and come join in when you can!

  • Weekly M-Os for shelf stocking, light cleaning/dusting. 3 or 4 hour shifts available

Special Projects

  • M-O's needed for parking lot safety during Amplified Voices outdoor mural project. Friendly greeters needed for the parking lot and entrance areas to let drivers know we're hosting a group of youth painting an outdoor mural.

  • Dates/times needed: Wednesday - Sunday, July 7th - July 11th each day from 1-4pm – 2-3 people per day would be great.

Plants Department's Seasonal Member Owners

  • Weekly and Monthly time investment opportunities in Plants will slow down as the summer progresses
  • Investing time in the Plants Department is a wonderful seasonal place for Member-Owners to get involved! Spend your time outside in the fresh air, help our Owners and other customers to get their gardens growing this season with locally grown plants (organic or conventional) and locally produced organic soils. Along with locally grown straw (organic or conventional), locally supplied seed companies, locally grown flowers for almost all of our bouquets, and locally grown succulent collections, our offerings are all about supporting our community of growers and providing excellent selections for eco-conscious shoppers to choose from!
